The Leapin’ Librarian

Are you and your library ready to make the LEAP?

“Let’s start at the very beginning”…um, maybe not April 20, 2007

As much as I love to imitate Julie Andrews in The Sound of Music, methinks this is one place where I couldn’t possibly start at the very beginning (even though it is the very best place to start) – simply because I’m late!

After several years of lurking and watching the blogosphere exponentially expand I’m finally throwing my hat in the ring.  And I’ll be OK if it’s trampled upon, actually.  Cause that will mean that I’m engaging in conversations.

And what is my hope with this blog?

  • To highlight the fabulous LEAPS and advances in technology that many libraries are undertaking in encorporating Web 2.0 tools and ideas,
  • To lament the culture of oppression that many more other libraries are experiencing,
  • And to encourage a dialog of why this is so, and contribute to the “grassroots” surge of open-minded librarians who WANT CHANGE!

Question:  Do you feel your library administrators (the ones that craft mission statements and service priorities) are still in the “Global Warming is just a theory” phase, or do you think the lightbulbs (CFLs only, please) about the impacts of Web2.0, etc. are starting to turn on?
